Working in our Community
Our Lady Star of the Sea embraces and fosters its strong links with the local community. We have forged an ongoing relationship within our parish, other local businesses and community groups. We endeavour to develop the students’ deeper appreciation of social awareness in the wider community.
Our Sister School in Bali
In 2020, Our Lady Star of the Sea became a sister school to a school in a small village in Pengalon, Bali. Many of the families in this village are very poor and require a lot of assistance to be able to send their children to school, education is a luxury many of them simply can't afford. The school is also very dilapidated and the students have very little resources for their education.
Since we began our connection students have written letters to each other, sent photos and videos, taught each other games and shared about the similarities and differences between our lives. We have also supported the school by gifting rice, educational resources, new furniture and more. Staff and families from OLSS have been able to visit Pengalon, educating the teachers on current teaching methods and even 'teaching' the students. We are extremely grateful for the relationships we have developed with our wonderful sister school.
